What is the weirdest question you’ve been asked about your diabetes, and how did you respond?
Why did you get diabetes? Were you eating more sweets? I replied straight forwardly to them that this is an auto immune disorder which is different from normal type 2 diabetes.
Has anyone told you that you couldn’t do something due to your diabetes, and you proved them wrong?
Yes, I wanted to run half marathon and one day in school one of my teacher discouraged me saying you can’t run you are weak because of your diabetes. So, I ran marathon and proved her wrong.
How do you inspire others?
I inspire others by always staying positive, helping family and friends working hard to achieve my goal of becoming a chartered accountant… And always motivating others.
Tell us a story about how diabetes has affected you.
Well when I was a child my diabetes was not disturbing me. My parents used to give me food and I would just eat it but when I started to grow up and started to know the complications created by diabetes is when I noticed guys my age eating food which I shouldn’t eat, and it started to disturb me mentally..
How has diabetes contributed to forming you into the person you are today? Mentally, physically, or emotionally?
Well in those days as I came to know that famous Pakistani cricketer Wasim Akram was also suffering from diabetes and though he had diabetes he was living a very fit and healthy life. He was master of his game that gave me so much strength and I started to believe that though I have type 1, I still can achieve my goals and decided never let diabetes to be hindrance in path of my success.
Would you rather fight one horse sized duck or 100 regular sized ducks?
I will fight both horsed sized duck and regular sized ducks.
