Born Spanish, and a British punk rocker at heart. I didn’t think too much in the future until I had a child 2 years ago. Taking risks, trying new experience, and taking the best of the live quickest as possible.

What is the weirdest question you’ve been asked about your diabetes, and how did you respond?
You are diabetic; how can you go to University?
True story. I have met parents not allowing children study far from home because the hypo scare.

Has anyone told you that you couldn’t do something due to your diabetes, and you proved them wrong?
I debuted on April 84. My first doctor said I could not travel Rome in August or go to a concert: I learned a lot by myself, changed the doctor, traveled to Rome the next year, studying in the UK, finish my high school top of my class, studied physics, played in a band, and lived in Barcelona, Madrid, and 7 different places, moved back to the UK again, managed my diabetes in European and UK units, got married, had a child, set up a company, ..and still do new things often…and traveling..lots of countries and..still learning.

How do you inspire others?
I use to inject without leaving the table showing it is a normal situation. I am really proud to take part in several studies to improve medicines, techniques and hospital improvement.

Tell us a story about how diabetes has affected you.
I started at 15, hard to manage, rebel years, punk rocker, going out friends and drinking. I use to be the craziest just to show I not the weakest. I change all the shyness into a very open minded person because I never forgot the risks but keep myself as a glass-half-full person.

How has diabetes contributed to forming you into the person you are today? Mentally, physically, or emotionally?
I grow a lot thinking in the variables of my body, doing lot of exercise, playing sports, being competitive but collaborative, and very emotionally sensitive because I want to take the best everyday. Not losing time with bad people. It takes me a lot of effort be healthy.

Would you rather fight one horse sized duck or 100 regular sized ducks?
I would fight a big duck, but reality is sending me a duck everyday to fight with; now, 30 year laters, a little duck can be quick enough to f@£$@£$ the day!
