Hi, I’m Scott and I have type 2 diabetes. I work for a massive defense contractor in Buckinghamshire. I am 36 years old and am studying Buddhism. I love where I live in Aylesbury, in the countryside and peaceful surroundings. I enjoy walking, meditating, and hanging with my good friends. I was diagnosed back in 2009.
Tell us a story about how diabetes has affected you.
When I was first diagnosed I was very poor. I was sleeping for hours and hours. When I woke I felt like I had no energy what so ever as if it was late and time to go to bed. It was a very scary time. I became a self harmer through diabetes. I found some real dark places and I believed that I’d never get through it. Today I’m a different man. I have a saying from dark comes light. My gorgeous fiance’ showed me the way back to myself and I found Buddhism. To this I owe my life. I find life so joyful now. I am aware of my limitations with food and I enjoy what I can eat.
How has diabetes contributed to forming you into the person you are today? Mentally, physically, or emotionally?
Today I find things that I love make me very emotional and I love life. I find at times I can still have the mood swings that occur at times but I know how to handle them now. I’m thankful as my gorgeous lady understands and supports me.
Would you rather fight one horse sized duck or 100 regular sized ducks?
Definitely i would rather be with 100 regular ducks! I love ducks so the more the merrier!
