I’m so tired of people asking me if I ate too much junk food, is that how I became diabetic? I want to teach the world, we didn’t do anything wrong and I’m not going to be ashamed to wear my pump.
What is the weirdest question you’ve been asked about your diabetes, and how did you respond?
Did I eat too much candy and gave myself diabetes. If I ate better could I make it go away?
I laugh and explain I didn’t do anything to kill my pancreas and I wish I could make diabetes go away for everyone!
Has anyone told you that you couldn’t do something due to your diabetes, and you proved them wrong?
No. My family knows, if I wanna do something, I’ll do it!
How do you inspire others?
I’m trying to start and foundation and fund raising to help find a cure for diabetes.
Tell us a story about how diabetes has affected you.
It affects me every day. In the beginning there was denial that I had it. Then anger and depression that it would never go away and no it makes me stronger. It makes me wanna fight each day to do better and to someday help find a cure!
How has diabetes contributed to forming you into the person you are today? Mentally, physically, or emotionally?
I think it’s made me a fighter. Never wanting to quit and even more it makes me want to educate the world and be there for others when they struggle. We all have days bad days when we feel defeated but it’s the strong and positive type 1 family that pick us back up and help us get back in the game.
Would you rather fight one horse sized duck or 100 regular sized ducks?
Either, I’m a fighter so if it’s one huge duck or a million small ducks, I’ll do my best to kick their ass!
