I was diagnosed a type 1 diabetic in 2004. I was crushed because my mother is a type 1 and I know the health problems she has endured in her life time. I was starting to get my head around the idea and getting some control when my daughter was diagnosed in 2006. Talk about devastating. Having diabetes is a life style change not a curse. It has made me more disciplined and attentive. I like to think I inspire my daughter but the truth is she has inspired me more than she will ever comprehend. The other inspiration in my life is my mother, 59 years with diabetes, she is strong. So the question is what makes me “me”. My family (wife, kids, and parents) NOT DIABETES.
