(This is Peytons mother) Peyton Matthew is one… a few days after his first birthday he was air-vac’d to Little Rock Children’s Hospital, blood sugar of 843 and was in DKA. We almost lost him…. He is 100% insulin dependent. Our worlds have changed completely. He is such a happy baby. I hope he grows up knowing this will not stop him from following his dreams, and making his mark in the world.

What is the weirdest question you’ve been asked about your diabetes, and how did you respond?
What did I let him have to make him get diabetes? My response…… life.

Has anyone told you that you couldn’t do something due to your diabetes, and you proved them wrong?
I’ve had people tell me that he will never live a normal life again… he is proving them wrong everyday because this is his normal life.

How do you inspire others?
Staying positive… and educating people

Tell us a story about how diabetes has affected you.
As his mother…. I quit working.. I am now a full time stay at home mom with him and his older brother and sister. We use to be a get up and go whenever family, now everyday is scheduled out…

How has diabetes contributed to forming you into the person you are today? Mentally, physically, or emotionally?
This has been one of the roughest things I’ve experienced. It has taken a toll on my husband and I. But every day we wake up hearing him giggle makes it all worth!

Would you rather fight one horse sized duck or 100 regular sized ducks?
100…. we are fighters bring them ducks on
