I was diagnosed on April fools day 2003, I was 9 and half. When I got diagnosed my blood sugar was in the 300’s and I had moderate ketones and I didn’t have to go to the hospital. I was taken to a diabetes clinic called the Barbara Davis Center. I have been a few different types insulin; NPH (this is a cloudy insulin) Ultralente (Not sure on the spelling) Humulog , Novolog and Lantus. I was on shots for 2 years before getting a pump. My first pump was the Minimed Paradigm 712 it was clear and lasted for four years until it got a motor error. I then got the 715 and it was blue. Then I got the 722 and it was purple. My current pump is the 723 minimed revel, I also use a Dex Com G4 sensor. I noticed my A1C has improved since using the Dex Com. My last A1C was 5.9.

It can be scary sometimes to live with type one and live on your own but, having a sense of hope and knowing you body makes a huge difference. I am now 21 and have had Type 1 diabetes for almost 12 years. The picture above is me on a ski vacation weeks before I was diagnosed with type 1.
