I was diagnosed really young with lactose intolerance. Later, after a scary episode, they realized I had diabetes. So, they diagnosed me with type 1 diabetes. Since then the treatments weren’t working like they should have so they did more testing. They found out I had a unknown type of rare diabetes. I had a type of MODY (mature onset diabetes of the young). There are 13 known types of diabetes, yet I have an unknown type that they are researching because of me.
Finding the right balance of treatment is difficult because im not like other cases. Sometimes it will work, then a month later it will stop working, so treatment is constantly changing. The scariest part about it is sometimes (rarely) my pancreas will release a lot of insulin and cause me to drop. I have yet to pass out for some unknown reason even though I have been under 10 several times. I’m just holding on to hope for more research, and hopefully soon, a cure.
