I am 19 years old. I was diagnosed with type one on July 27, 2009. I currently live in Texas. I grew up in a small town in MS. I love hunting, fishing and being on the river.
Question 3: How do you inspire others?
I try to stay as positive as possible through anything.
Question 4: Tell us a story about how diabetes has affected you.
It’s affected me in several ways. People have looked at me in weird ways when they have seen my pump or seen me pull out my meter to check my blood sugar is public. Sometimes they’ll say something about how they couldn’t do something like that. It used to make me feel like some kind of alien. But I try to look past it now. I mean it is what’s keeping me alive and healthy.
Question 5: How has diabetes contributed to forming you into the person you are today? Mentally, physically, or emotionally?
All of the above. In ways I have become stronger than I was both mentally and emotionally. Things used to bother me when people asked me a bunch of questions about what was wrong with me and how I could prick my finger all the time and inject needles into my skin. I don’t let it bother me as much anymore.
