Hi, my name is Mallory. I’m 21 years old, studying science in university. I have been type 1 since I was 6 years old. For many years I was a nationally ranked speed skater. Nowadays I find myself interested in long distance running and passionate about public speaking. My parents raised me with the belief that I could do anything I wanted to, even with diabetes. I love to spread this message to other diabetics, because I truly believe in it.

How do you inspire others?
I was a nationally ranked speed skater for many years. I was also a soccer player, swimmer and overall active person. I was surprised to find out that the diabetes community was inspired by my story. I never thought of my diabetes as a roadblock, it was just another challenge I had to overcome. Once I retired from competition I began to public speak and share my story with others. Nothing makes me happier than sharing my story and spreading hope to other type 1s and their families.
