Macy

I was diagnosed when I was 8 years old. I can remember every second of that doctors appointment, and the sadness in the doctors eyes when she told my mom the diagnosis.

It’s been really challenging, (almost daily) but I feel so proud to be alive and even more proud to have learned how to take care of my body at such a young age.

What is the weirdest question you’ve been asked about your diabetes, and how did you respond?
There is a lot of false perceptions about type 1  out there, I try to educate people to the best of my ability.

Has anyone told you that you couldn’t do something due to your diabetes, and you proved them wrong?
I have always done anything I have put my mind to. Diabetes does not define me.

Tell us a story about how diabetes has affected you.
Diabetes totally sucks, let’s be honest. Lows are so embarrassing and I have never understood how to explain one to anyone. It’s like, you’re entire body stops working but you can still hear all of your thoughts inside your head.
