I am a busy mother of three boys. I use to be very unhealthy and unhappy. I went through a horrible divorce in 2012 and doctors believe that it was the trigger for my diabetes. The diagnosis came as a huge shock and I thought my life was over. But that is just the misconception people have of diabetes. I live a normal much healthier life than O did before and I’m happier now than I was before my diagnosis. I remarried had my third child with my husband and have lost 25 kg’s through the whole process. #type1strong#healthy#happy#
What is the weirdest question you’ve been asked about your diabetes, and how did you respond?
I was once asked in public in front of my children if the marks I have (due to my infections because I bruise easily) if its due to drug use.
I calmly replied that I am definitely dependent on a drug called insulin because of my diabetes.
Has anyone told you that you couldn’t do something due to your diabetes, and you proved them wrong?
Everyone warned me that I can’t do crossfit but I absolutely love it and even proved myself wrong.
How do you inspire others?
I inspire others through my life story especially my weight loss. I share my story where I can and I just prove that no matter what happens in your life like in my case if you have a divorce or being a single parent or even being obese and being diagnosed with an illness all of that does not matter because you are strong enough to overcome anything.
Tell us a story about how diabetes has affected you.
Diabetes at this stage has affected me more positively than negatively. It forced me to make myself a priority, to take better care of myself!
How has diabetes contributed to forming you into the person you are today? Mentally, physically, or emotionally?
I am stronger in all aspects. I proved to myself that I can do this and not only this, anything! I lost 25kg’s I look better now than I did 10 years ago! Even after 3 boys!
Would you rather fight one horse sized duck or 100 regular sized ducks?
One horse sized duck!
