I was diagnosed at the age of 9 right after my grandmother passed away from diabetes. It hit me real hard. I struggled with the disease all the way up too the age of 22. I decided that it was time to stop letting diabetes win. I started working out and dieting properly (counting carbs, proteins, and fats). Before I started exercising my A1C was at 12.6, I have now brought it down too 7.5 (not where I want to be but much better then I was). When I was at my lowest I decided to pick myself up and take my life into my own hands and went from diabetic to diabeast!

What is the weirdest question you’ve been asked about your diabetes, and how did you respond?
I always used to get asked if diabetes is contagious, I always responded with “absolutely” and then I’d start coughing. I found a little humor in it.

Has anyone told you that you couldn’t do something due to your diabetes, and you proved them wrong?
Being able to eat what I want ( in moderation of course).  I just go ahead count my carbs calculate my insulin dose take my insulin and eat!

How do you inspire others?
I have diabetics just ask me tips on what I do for diet and exercise. I’ll reply to what I can help with and just keep a positive attitude towards everyone.

Tell us a story about how diabetes has affected you.
Diabetes has actually affected my relationship with my girlfriend. The fact that she cares so much about learning everything she can and I love her more and more for it.

How has diabetes contributed to forming you into the person you are today? Mentally, physically, or emotionally?
Diabetes mental prepared me for life at a young age. I knew if I could control this the rest of my life will be easy.
Physically I am probably the best shape I could be in and the motivation comes from being diabetic.
Emotionally I am strong I take everything head on. Of course we all have had those bad days where you feel like your losing but being able to face the next day with a positive out look makes you strong!

Would you rather fight one horse sized duck or 100 regular sized ducks?
A horse sized duck, I’d try to ride him 😉
