My name is Kayla and I’m a sophomore in high school. I play soccer, I’m on student council and I’ve had a 4.0 since kindergarten.
What is the weirdest question you’ve been asked about your diabetes, and how did you respond?
The weirdest question I’ve been asked is if I can “grow out of diabetes.” That being said I responded with a laugh and explained that I’d have this my whole life.
How do you inspire others?
I try to inspire others by doing the best I can at everything I do. I’m on my school’s student council, play travel soccer, kickbox, and spend time volunteering with animals. By being the best I can be, I hope to inspire others to be the best versions of themselves.
How has diabetes contributed to forming you into the person you are today? Mentally, physically, or emotionally?
Diabetes has had a major impact on who I’ve become today. I think physically it’s made me tougher. More importantly, it’s made me more understanding of others. Now that I know how it feels to fall under a stereotype, I’m careful not to judge others. Instead, I try to get to know them.
