I am 17, I’m from Texas, I’ve had diabetes for 7 years now and am in AP Art. I am a senior officer for my high school dance team and plan on studying for a career in diabetic education.
What is the weirdest question you’ve been asked about your diabetes, and how did you respond?
The weirdest question I’ve been asked was “Can I catch diabetes like a cold?” I was kind of blown away how little people really know about such a growing disease, but I explained in the best way I could that diabetes is not contagious.
Has anyone told you that you couldn’t do something due to your diabetes, and you proved them wrong?
I was told there was no way I would able to continue dancing, but I am now a senior officer on my high school dance team.
How do you inspire others?
I inspire others by showing nothing can stop you from achieving what you want, I am planning on going to college to pursue a career in diabetic education.
How has diabetes contributed to forming you into the person you are today? Mentally, physically, or emotionally?
Diabetes has made me a much stronger person. I personally feel you receive what you can handle and diabetes has tested my strengths – mentally and physically. Every time I’m challenged I become better
Would you rather fight one horse sized duck or 100 regular sized ducks?
I would defined rather fight one horse sized duck because then I’d only have one attacker
