Hello. My name is Johnny. I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when I was 4 years old. I was the first person in my city to use human insulin (NPH & R). There was a time where I didn’t focus on diabetes and years later the retina in my left eye detached. THIS WAS MY WAKEUP CALL! Year of negligence could’ve avoided this! They fixed my eye, and thankfully I can see again, but this was an “eye opener.” I knew I had to start controlling myself and take charge. I started counting carbs, dosing accordingly, and eventually got on an insulin pump. In a way, I’m kinda glad that the eye issue happened. It helped me reprioritize my life! Now I’m healthier than I’ve ever been thanks to staying on top of my diabetes. My last A1C was 5.8.
Diabetes is never easy but take little baby steps. Take each number at a time. The past is over. Focus on what you can do about your health today! Just don’t act like it doesn’t exist. It does. But it doesn’t control you. YOU CONTROL IT! Show diabetes who the boss is!
