I can’t remember not having diabetes, even though I was 8 when I was diagnosed. 20 years later living with type 1 diabetes, I’ve finally found the confidence and courage to stand proud with t1d. My calling in life is to empower and inspire other diabetics to live strong and not let anything get in the way of living a healthy and happy lifestyle with t1d. We are warriors, we are greater than our highs and our lows.

How do you inspire others?
I have two teaching degrees in education, special education and early childhood education. Inspiring is my passion! Living with type 1 diabetes for almost 20 years now, I’ve learned to live a happy and healthy lifestyle with t1d. I wanted to inspire not only my students in life but also diabetics. Sometimes it can be difficult and that’s why I wanted to create a support group to empower t1 diabetics. I created a Facebook page for fun and now it has over 3,000 diabetics worldwide. How has diabetes contributed to forming you into the person you are today? Mentally, physically, or emotionally?

Would you rather fight one horse sized duck or 100 regular sized ducks?
I was at the park today. There were two intense fierce swans and 100 little/regular sized ducks. Let me tell ya! I rather fight 100 regular sized ducks any day than those evil swans! They are out for blood! Or just my bread…
