Hey! I’m Jessie. Born and raised in Asheville, NC. Where I’m a CNA at Mission hospital. Photography and baking cupcakes are my hobbies. Baking cupcakes.. what a great hobby for a diabetic right? Lol. I’ve been a type 1 diabetic since 2007! And im totally kicking it’s butt 😉
Has anyone told you that you couldn’t do something due to your diabetes, and you proved them wrong?
Eating cake?! Haha. Everyone always says we can’t eat sweet stuff, and I tell em that with a little(or a lot) insulin, I can’t eat whatever 🙂
How do you inspire others?
I try to stay as positive as possible! No matter what kind of day I’ve had when it comes to talking to people I keep a smile on my face.
Tell us a story about how diabetes has affected you.
It’s affected me in a huge way. I was 11 when I was diagnosed so I felt that I had to grow up quicker than others, and I took on more responsibility. My parents taught me to be independent with it, they helped me but they didn’t do EVERYTHING for me. It’s helped me with communication about diabetes, It’s so easy to just start rambling about it if someone asks me a question. I want people to be informed!
How has diabetes contributed to forming you into the person you are today? Mentally, physically, or emotionally?
Well, I consider myself responsible. And I consider myself independent for the most part. Diabetes has helped me to be both of those things since I was little.
Would you rather fight one horse sized duck or 100 regular sized ducks?
One horse sized duck! Lemme at em!
