Isabelle Dever

My name is Isabelle. Mama Isabelle as I’ve been called a few times in my friends group. I guess being diabetic has give me that name mostly. I always make sure to lock the door, pee before I leave the house, get my keys, grab my kit, make sure I have snakes, and extra inset just in case. And trust me all my friends remember to get all the same things, as I am called Mama Isabelle.
It takes practice to get to this level of remembrance though it was no easy task, from being so depressed I couldn’t get out of bed to being rushed to the hospital for seizures, DKA and just a few spells of dehydration.
But that’s just a part of my life it teaches me to be more responsible; to not lose hope, to hold on to the ones I love most even more.
It’s all about keeping hope that tomorrow you will wake up check your blood and it will be good. And if it’s not you’ll grab hold of it and make it your own and do better the next day.
I’ve been diabetic for 14 years and I hope one day I can say I HAD diabetes but until then I’m going to own it and on bad days I’m gonna love the ones I love and remember tomorrow is a fresh start and a new beginning.
