I was diagnosed at the end of my 3rd grade year. After 2 days in the hospital my first question was can I still play football? The Dr. told me I could do everything I’d done before. Since then my parents and I have worked hard not to let diabetes get in the way of school wrestling football and my life. I eat the healthiest I can so I can keep my energy up and my sugar as level as good possible for sports. My parents and my faith in God keep me from getting discouraged and I know that I’ll live for eternity without t1d.
How do you inspire others?
I inspire others by telling them my story and how I still live my life the way I want to.
Tell us a story about how diabetes has affected you.
All I can think of is it’s affected what I can drink. No more pop or juice unless I’m low.
How has diabetes contributed to forming you into the person you are today? Mentally, physically, or emotionally?
It’s made me more focused and responsible. My parents and teachers trust me to make good decisions.
