I am a mom to two beautiful and inspiring children. I am a wife to a fun and loving husband. I’m a teacher to some inspiring and lightly four-year-olds. I was diagnosed as a gestational diabetic with my  first pregnancy. Despite already eating incredibly healthy I was put on insulin within a few days of failing the glucose test. If I could go back and count the amount of tears I shed and the times I was told to not worry because gestational diabetes “always went away”, I would be rich. But at my postpartum checkup when I had already lost all of my baby weight, I was told to see an endocrinologist. They ran some tests, and BOOM, out of nowhere, and with no family history, I was a type 1 diabetic.

Has anyone told you that you couldn’t do something due to your diabetes, and you proved them wrong?
Eat something..,guess what, I can read the ingredients or the nutritional  information or can find that out, and yes, I can eat that.

How do you inspire others?
I get up at 5 AM Monday through Friday to exercise. I have always loved eating healthy and exercise, way before I was diagnosed as a type one diabetic. This was not a hard thing for me to adjust to. I’d like to think I inspire my own children and those that surround me by putting 1 foot in front of the other and doing what needs to be done.

Tell us a story about how diabetes has affected you.
Type 1 diabetes is a disease that not only affects you lifelong, but it affects every minute of the day, 24 hours a day. My sleep, health and overall well-being have been impacted. I worry more, stress more, but also try to live more. Life is meant to be lived. While I have my days and my moments of being down, not a day goes by where I can’t  find beauty in it, laughter, and pride.

There was one day when my son was four years old and I was struggling. He made me a “cure”out of Legos. I will remember this day forever. Because even though I didn’t think he understood, he knew Mommy was having a rough day and as such a small body and being, he wanted to love me and help me regardless. My children are pure sources of strength and support. They may not know it every day, but I literally put 1 foot in front of the other and rise to the occasion all day and every day for them. #everything

Would you rather fight one horse sized duck or 100 regular sized ducks?
I’d like to see one horse sized duck try and fight me! 😂💪😘
