Has anyone told you that you couldn’t do something due to your diabetes, and you proved them wrong?
Being the only child of a single mother and being a diabetic she always smothered me because of it. She was too scared of letting me do anything because of it. Now 16 years later she has come to the realization that I’m an adult and can now take care of it on my own, doing what ever I want as long as my levels are ok.
Tell us a story about how diabetes has affected you.
My story isn’t as glamorous as everyone else. To me it’s a constant struggle everyday to try and stay positive. Everyone says try to stay strong and don’t let a disease define you, but diabetes has defined me, it has to all of us in one way or another. Being a diabetic of 16 years and a sophomore in college has made me lose control of it. But I’m slowly gaining it back one day at a time. But for some reason I still get those days of being burnt out and not wanting to deal with it. Now about to declare my major has got me trying to stay more positive about it.
