What is the weirdest question you’ve been asked about your diabetes, and how did you respond?
I’ve been asked so many times if it will ever go away, I just laughed it off and said I wish

Has anyone told you that you couldn’t do something due to your diabetes, and you proved them wrong?
My parents and my peers have told me that I’ll never make it to the FBI because of my diabetes and that I should pick a different dream. I told them, you just watch me. I’m not letting this stop me.

How do you inspire others?
Everyday I work to break the stereotypes and stigma that surrounds diabetes. I’m a runner. I love the gym. I was diagnosed right before I left for college. I’ve had to handle all of this by myself. I’m studying criminal justice now and I’m going to be an agent in the FBI. I know that I will have to work harder than everyone else but I will never let this disease stop me!

Tell us a story about how diabetes has affected you.
It’s very scary. No one really understands how you’re constantly worried about keeping yourself alive everyday. It really takes a toll on your mind. It’s also shown me how little education there is about diabetes. Everywhere I go I see stigma and jokes about diabetes. It makes me sad because not many understand how serious and exhausting this disease is. It has definitely tested me but it’s shown me how strong I really am. I want to inspire children with this disease, I want to educate people about this disease, and I want to fight to cure this disease.

How has diabetes contributed to forming you into the person you are today? Mentally, physically, or emotionally?
I’d say that the biggest toll diabetes takes in on my emotional well being. The constant worry, fear, and guilt is difficult because you want to blame yourself for something you can’t control. If I has advice for anyone battling this disease it would be this; if you can handle diabetes you’re set. There’s nothing you can’t handle. It’s shown me how strong I am. Sometimes I wish I didn’t have to deal with this but at the end of the day, it makes me who I am, a fighter.

Would you rather fight one horse sized duck or 100 regular sized ducks?
By far 1 horse sized duck! 100 normal ducks would be very overwhelming.
