Hi my name is Dom, I was born in England but raised in France and I am T1D. My mom is a nurse so my family never had any problems with my health.

What is the weirdest question you’ve been asked about your diabetes, and how did you respond?
When I was younger a girl asked me if she’d get diabetes if we kissed, the only think I could think of was how stupid that question was… So, I kissed her and told her to see a doctor.

Has anyone told you that you couldn’t do something due to your diabetes, and you proved them wrong?
I don’t why but one of my doctors told that basket ball wasn’t good for diabetes because the effort is irregular or some other irrelevant reason. So, I started playing basket ball straight after he told me that and ended up being good at it.

How do you inspire others?
I try to help my friends and family as much as I can. I don’t personally have a dream or something to fulfill, but making people happy or seeing them succeed in what they are doing is something that makes me happy. For an example I’ve been producing many videos,(which is one of my hobbies) for a friend of mine who does magic tricks, now he performs on stage and does private shows. Helping him was something that I really enjoyed.

Tell us a story about how diabetes has affected you.
I am a bit of a stunt guy but stunts don’t always turn out as they should. I had numerous broken bones and a few screws and plates to help them heal. Diabetes affected me for the cicatrization of my wounds which took longer than planned.

How has diabetes contributed to forming you into the person you are today? Mentally, physically, or emotionally?
I personally feel like diabetes made me a better person than who I would have been without. Mentally, I try to always think ahead and always have a “back door” that is to say a plan B in case of emergency. I try not to judge people with a look, they cannot actually tell that I have diabetes by looking at me so it makes me think that everybody has something to tell you about them that you cannot see with a glance. Physically, I try to keep fit by going to the gym and playing sports because it really helps me regulate my blood sugar. Emotionally, I always try to show less than I should. I don’t exactly know why but maybe it’s because I don’t think people should worry as much as they do for me.

Would you rather fight one horse sized duck or 100 regular sized ducks?
I’d rather fight a horse sized duck because if i win the fight i’ll domesticate the duck and ride it as a horse. He’ll be able to swim so he’d be my seahorseduck. We will be friends and travel around the world together.
