My name is Delaney and I was diagnosed with T1D at the age of 5, .” Since the age of five, no one besides myself has ever given me an insulin injection or has ever changed my insulin site. I decided to tackle my disease from a very young age and I continue to never let my disease control me 13 years later. I am the head majorette in the marching band at my high school, I participate in my high school track and field teams as a sprinter, I have swum competitively on a club team for as long as I have been a T1 diabetic, and I will be moving onto the next part of my life and attending college next fall. Over the years, I have also been successful in creating a local organization to help fundraise and spread awareness for Type 1 Diabetes. If I was given the choice, I would not elect to have Type 1 Diabetes. However, I am proud to have made the choice to learn from what Type 1 Diabetes has taught me about life and the strength of myself. To all Type 1 Diabetics, don’t let your disease define you. Fight it every day in everything you do. And don’t ever let T1D stop you from doing what you love and being successful at it.
