I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when I was admitted to the hospital for DKA. I spent four days in the hospital and was incredibly insulin resistant. During this time, I wasn’t able to get my blood sugars below 200. It was the worst I’ve ever felt in my life. Since then, I’ve managed to control my blood sugar, eat the foods I want, and feel great. My most recent A1C was 5.5. This is all because of my high carb / low fat fruit based diet. I love sharing information and helping other diabetics achieve success. I want to show diabetics that they shouldn’t be afraid of eating fruit.

When we eat low fat, the sugar in fruits passes easily into, and then out of the blood.

Has anyone told you that you couldn’t do something due to your diabetes, and you proved them wrong?
I’ve been told by numerous doctors to avoid eating large amounts or fruit and to keep my carb intake below 75g per meal. I’m eating double that and taking nearly half the amount of insulin as I was before this new life style.
Would you rather fight one horse sized duck or 100 regular sized ducks?
One horse sized duck!

I’ve experienced similar frustrations with wacko nutritionists. When I was first diagnosed at17, they had me on less than 60g a meal. Being a growing young teenager I was always hungry, so that led to eating a lot of meats and cheeses. Needless to say, 4 years later I’m working on getting my cholesterol back down as well as still figuring out the proper nutrition for my body.
