I was just your typical preteen. I liked soccer, softball, drawing and baking. Then I was experiencing crazy symptoms. I remember being diagnosed two days after my birthday and wondering, “Why me?” Now I know. I wasn’t given type one without a good reason. God gave me this, and now I have a purpose. I am now stronger, braver, and I can speak out; for myself and others. I no longer wonder what I did on my day one, because I believe wholeheartedly that everything happens for a reason.
Has anyone told you that you couldn’t do something due to your diabetes, and you proved them wrong?
I remember when I was first diagnosed that I lost most of my friends. They told me that they left because THEY couldn’t handle it. Yes, they, not the one with the illness, I proved this wrong. I made new friends at Camp Hertko Hollow. They are still my friends today and I thank God for them everyday. I no longer need the ones who left me when I was down, because now I have people I can rely on.
