I’m an actress and model at Stars Agency in San Francisco and I sing with record producer Narada Michael Walden. Now I go to an arts school just north of San Francisco. I’m very bubbly and make friends fast! When I was first diagnosed in middle school, I was in complete denial. I didn’t know what diabetes was or how it would change my life. I hated the injections and was embarrassed about my disease. However, after a year of having the disease I started the first ever T1D School Club in my county and put on a singing, acting, and dancing show with the club. We packed the theatre and raised $2,000 for JDRF! Ever since, I’ve been walking around not afraid to answer questions about my pump or diabetes in general. In fact, I may even go as far as to say I’m proud!
What is the weirdest question you’ve been asked about your diabetes, and how did you respond?
I was at the beach with my friends and a grown man pointed to my Dexcom CGM on my arm and said “What is that? What’s wrong with you?” I replied monotonously with “I’m a robot. Scientists are working on me to see if I can stand aquatic conditions.” To my surprise…he believed me!!
Has anyone told you that you couldn’t do something due to your diabetes, and you proved them wrong?
Yes! Ive had mothers at birthday parties refuse to give me chocolate cake or fruit punch insisting that I “can’t eat that”. I can eat whatever I want, thank you very much!
Would you rather fight one horse sized duck or 100 regular sized ducks?
I would rather fight no ducks! Who would want to injure cute little ducklings?
