What is the weirdest question you’ve been asked about your diabetes, and how did you respond?
I was asked how long the cannula for my pump site was. I was changing it so I just showed it to them and they were surprised by how short it was. She thought it was a foot long.
Has anyone told you that you couldn’t do something due to your diabetes, and you proved them wrong?
Nobody has told me what I can and can’t do. People ask me what I can eat, and I tell them “anything you can eat”. I don’t let people get the feeling that I’m fragile, and they don’t treat me as such.
How do you inspire others?
I try to stay positive, but sometimes it’s too exhausting. The most inspiring thing I’ve done (I even inspired myself) was speak up at a youth even at my church and encouraged the kids that no matter what they struggle with, or even what their dreams are, that isn’t what defines them. God defines them and He calls them beautiful and perfect. A son and a daughter. So even though I am diabetic, that isn’t who I am.
Would you rather fight one horse sized duck or 100 regular sized ducks?
One horse sized duck. I will conquer him and ride off into the sunset.
