I was diagnosed at age 15. When I was first diagnosed I thought my life was over. I overcame so many obstacles. I continued to play softball. Went on to college to get my BSN and got the job I always dreamed of as a medical flight nurse. I look at my life and diabetes as a mountain I want to get to the top. I may stumble and fall but I brush myself off and continue the climb.
Has anyone told you that you couldn’t do something due to your diabetes, and you proved them wrong?
I am a distance runner. I was told I wouldn’t be able to run far. With proper adjustments and the help of my pump I can easily run 13miles.
How do you inspire others?
One day a week I worked at the local children’s hospital oncology floor. During chemo some of my patients would need some insulin. They would get bummed then I show them my pump and say we are in this together.
