I’m an 18 year old from Auckland, New Zealand! I was diagnosed at the age of 13 on Christmas Day. I was sick and we put it down to just over eating, Little did I know that the very same night I was rushed to hospital with ketoacidosis. I enjoyed playing sports all the way through school and when I was diagnosed I was told I might not be able to for a little while so that I could get my blood sugars under control. I bounced right back and decided to do more sports because I thought it would help me control my blood sugars better and it did! Yes, diabetes sucks but you’ve always got to look on the positive side and look at how we have medicines to help us now!
How has diabetes contributed to forming you into the person you are today? Mentally, physically, or emotionally?
Diabetes contributed to making me who I am today because it’s taught me that what doesn’t kill you really does make you stronger. I feel like because of diabetes I’m a lot stronger mentally in my mind set about not giving up on things.
