Hello! My name is Barbie. I was diagnosed as type one at the age of 17, and I’m turning 24 this year. I just married the love of my life, and I am a CNA, and an aspiring nurse. I hope to someday become a NICU nurse. Diabetes is a constant struggle but I am determined to have as close to a normal life as possible! 🙂
What is the weirdest question you’ve been asked about your diabetes, and how did you respond?
Is it contagious?
How do you inspire others?
At first being diagnosed was tragic and confusing. Most of the things I have learned have been through my own struggles. I try to help people that are new to the diabetic life.
Tell us a story about how diabetes has affected you.
I would love to say that diabetes hasn’t, but it has touched so many parts of my life, from my physical ability, to my lifestyle, to learning who will stand by me during rough times.
How has diabetes contributed to forming you into the person you are today? Mentally, physically, or emotionally?
Diabetes forced me to grow up and take responsibility for my health. I still struggle daily but I am much more devoted to getting healthy.
