I am a 4th and 5th grade teacher in beautiful Bozeman, MT. I’ve had type 1 since 2001 when I was 9 years old. Diabetes has made me stronger and hasn’t held me back yet. I am excited to keep loving and living life and starting a family with my husband soon!

What is the weirdest question you’ve been asked about your diabetes, and how did you respond?
Is it contagious. I asked if they were serious, said yes it is you better not get too close, then made sure they understood more about it and walked away.
How do you inspire others?
Being healthy. Honestly I have tight control that I didn’t think I could. I have a lot of fun, but I monitor everything I eat, drink, and do to make sure I’m healthy for a long time. My extended and immediate family have all changed their habits. I also try my hardest to inspire even one student or make sure they know they are loved and special.  Not sure I’m doing a good job with any of it, but I try.
How has diabetes contributed to forming you into the person you are today? Mentally, physically, or emotionally?
It’s hard. Really hard, but it makes you strong. I’m still alive and happy and it could be so much worse. You just have to stay positive and deal with it.

Would you rather fight one horse sized duck or 100 regular sized ducks?
