Hi my name is Amber. I am a normal kid. Even though I have diabetes I don’t let that stop me. I am very involved in church and school. I am pentecostal and I love to do band and JROTC at my school.
What is the weirdest question you’ve been asked about your diabetes, and how did you respond?
The weirdest question I’ve been asked about my diabetes is “Do you give yourself shots every day? I couldn’t do it. You do that so you can eat sweets right?” I replied with “yes I take shots daily but it’s not just to eat sweets. Its to eat any food because food has carbohydrates that turn into sugar and make your blood sugar go up.”
How do you inspire others?
I inspire others by setting goals and going for them.
Tell us a story about how diabetes has affected you.
Now days at drill meets for JROTC or parades I have to check my blood sugar and that can be embarrassing at times.
How has diabetes contributed to forming you into the person you are today? Mentally, physically, or emotionally?
I sometimes get upset because all the other kids don’t have to check their blood sugar or take insulin so it’s nerve racking for me.
Would you rather fight one horse sized duck or 100 regular sized ducks?
100 regular sized ducks. You can just kick the regular sized ducks.
