Question #1:What is the weirdest question you’ve been asked about your diabetes, and how did you respond?

“So how do you deal with things, like mosquito’s?” “What?” “You know, with so much sugar in your blood, they must love you!” Look of confusion, “That’s not how this works, at all. You do know what Type 1(!) diabetes is, right.”

Question #2: Has anyone told you that you couldn’t do something due to your diabetes, and you proved them wrong?

Concerts. I had a lot of people tell me I should avoid them. But I love music, so I still go to as many as I can, and stay healthy while I do!

Question #5: How has diabetes contributed to forming you into the person you are today? Mentally, physically, or emotionally?

I think it has given me more of a carpe diem view. Doing things I might have passed up before, finally signing up for things I’ve been wanting to do for years. Plus I joke a lot more, people can feel awkward when they find out I have diabetes. So I make fun of myself or things I have to do. It keeps my laughing and helps them realize it’s not the end of the world.
